GOZO — In a recent display of bravado, local man Tumas declared he could swim to Gozo in under an hour. To prove his point, he jumped into the Mediterranean wearing nothing but a pair of shorts and his trusty inflatable pastizzi.
Tumas left the shore, kicking and splashing, full of confidence. However, the Mediterranean currents had other plans. After 15 minutes, he found himself drifting rather than swimming, cruising effortlessly on his delicious flotation device.
”I thought I would get to Gozo in no time. Instead, I spent the afternoon relaxing and working on my tan!”
Islanders watched as Tumas, surrounded by intrigued seagulls, floated on the inflatable pastizzi, occasionally taking selfies and shouting out for anyone to bring him a ħobż biż-żejt.
Many hailed Tumas as a local hero, with several suggesting Gozo should start a new tourist attraction called “Swim Like Tumas” where visitors float their way from Malta on inflatable food.
At press time, Tumas was spotted heading back to Malta, the pastizzi deflating but his dreams of culinary travel still inflated.
