VALLETTA — What started as a simple afternoon pastime has turned into Malta’s latest craze: watching buses attempting to park in Valletta. Locals have reported a surge in excitement as they gather to witness the ‘epic’ struggles of drivers trying to squeeze into impossibly small spaces.

“I used to think football was the best sport, but this is on another level!” said local enthusiast Joseph. “You never know if the bus will squeeze in or end up blocking half the street. It’s like the Olympics of parking!”

Families reportedly bring snacks, and some even prepare banners to cheer on their favorite bus. One father of five, Lino, commended the effort of one particular driver, stating, “Did you see how close he got to that corner? Pure skill, that one. Have a pastizzi, lads!”

With every attempted parking mission, you can feel the tension build. People wait, holding their breaths, ready to erupt in cheer or groan dismay. One bus even attempted a double-parking manoeuvre that left spectators speechless. “I thought it was going to be a disaster! But he nailed it!” exclaimed a young boy named Marco, clutching a ħobż biż-żejt.

The Ministry of Transport is said to be looking into making this a recognized national sport, with official schedules and scores. Stay tuned for the first ‘National Parking Championship’ scheduled for next month. At press time, we heard that foreigners are now booking flights just to see this unique competition.
