VALLETTA — In an unprecedented move, the Maltese government has officially declared the chaos found in Marsa Park’s public parking as an official national sport. Starting next year, locals will compete in an annual tournament for the highly sought-after ‘Golden Pastizzeria’ trophy.
Tumas, who is the Minister of Traffic and Fireworks, explained, “Parking in Marsa has always been a game of survival. Why not turn it into a sport? It’s already a matter of life and death if you want a space before Karmenu!”
The tournament will see teams of three, each with their own customized vehicles, racing to park in the most absurd and outrageous of situations. “We’ll even have special categories for best double-parking and most creative use of a space meant for a motorbike,” he added, as he hastily scribbled plans on a pastizzini wrapper.
Future Stars of Maltese Sports
The event promises to be a spectacle, featuring local favorites competing with innovative tactics, such as ‘The Reverse Hail Mary’ and the infamous ‘Sliema Slow-Down’. With plans for sponsorships by every pastizzeria in the country, the stakes have never been higher.
“This is not just about parking; it’s about boosting our tourism and getting more foreigners confused than ever!”
Along with the tournament, spectators can enjoy a festival atmosphere with traditional food stalls serving ħobż biż-żejt and pastizzi, ensuring nobody leaves hungry while searching for their car.
At press time, the construction of a giant trophy made of pastizzi was rumored to begin, with Pawlu already on stand-by to eat it in case of an emergency.
