VALLETTA — In a bold move to enhance tourism, the Maltese government has announced a national holiday dedicated to the beloved pastizzi. This innovative initiative requires all tourists to perform a ceremonial dance that mimics the flaky layers of the pastry before entering any local bakery.

The Ministry of Culture stated that, “Pastizza is more than food; it’s an art. We want every visitor to truly feel the beauty of our flaky treasure.” Tourists will now be greeted by a bakery warden who will assess their dance skills before allowing them to buy the coveted snack.

Flaky Dance Moves Required

Visitors will first have to learn a specific set of moves designed to represent the layers of the pastizzi. Local choreographer Mariella Azzopardi has been hired to create the routine. “It’s a blend of traditional Maltese folk dance and the art of flaky pastry making,” she explained. “We want everyone to shimmy like a freshly baked pastizzi!"

"If you can’t dance like a pastizzi, you don’t deserve to eat one!”

Local bakery owners have mixed feelings about the new requirement. Some, like Tumas from Sliema, are thrilled. “Finally! Tourists will appreciate our pastizzi like we do! It’s about time they shook their hips for some ħobż biż-żejt!” others are skeptical. “What if they can’t dance? What do I do, serve them frozen pastizzi instead?“

Carmen, a tourist from Germany, expressed her confusion: “I just wanted a snack! Now I have to dance? What’s next? A roundabout challenge to get to the Valletta Waterfront?” Meanwhile, Karmenu, an avid dancer and pastry enthusiast, couldn’t be more excited. “I’m ready to master the moves! Finally, my dance skills will get me more pastizzi!”

At press time, the government was in talks to include mandatory pastizzi dance lessons in schools. Stay tuned for more updates!
