VALLETTA — In a revolutionary decision that has left everyone scratching their heads, the Maltese government announced that public buses will now run exclusively on pastizzi leftovers. This initiative is meant to combat rising fuel costs while promoting local snacks, but it has resulted in a completely unexpected problem: traffic jams that smell divine.
From now on, instead of diesel fumes, commuters can enjoy the aromatic scents of ricotta and pea-filled pastries wafting through the streets. It seems that the smell is so enticing that many drivers have started to slow down and even stop their vehicles just to bask in the delicious aroma.
Tumas, a bus driver from Birkirkara, commented, “I used to dread the morning commute, but now when I get behind the wheel, it’s like being in a pastizzi heaven. I can’t blame my passengers for wanting to hang out a bit longer!”
Experts say this could lead to an influx in traffic fines and even an industry for roadside pastizzi stands right next to bus stops. Karmenu, a traffic warden, promised to issue tickets to anyone who stops for more than five minutes but admits, “It’s hard to argue with people when they say they’re just following their noses.”
