VALLETTA — In a move that has left the whole island scratching its head, the newly elected Kombucha Party announced a staggering €800 million plan to turn the Azure Window into Malta’s official national beverage by 2025. The party claims it’ll ‘refresh Malta’s image and hydrate tourists all at once’.
”This is not just a drink; it’s a lifestyle!” proclaimed Karmenu, the party leader, standing next to a large photo of the Azure Window slathered in kombucha. “Imagine sipping on the power of the sea with every gulp, while doing your part for the environment. Everything will be better with a dash of calcium carbonate!”
More than Just a Drink
The Kombucha Party argues that transforming the iconic limestone formation into a drink will boost tourism. ‘Tourists come for the景色, but stay for the flavor!’ says Marija, a fervent supporter. Kombucha, made with fermented tea and bubbles, will supposedly replace the traditional pastizzi as the must-have snack for every tourist.
”I can already see the t-shirts: ‘I drank the Azure Window!’”
Anonymous sources within the Planning Authority have confirmed that discussions are already underway to include a ‘liquid entry fee’ for the Azure Window, further funding the initiative. The fee will reportedly cover the costs of extensive marketing campaigns featuring Maltese grandmothers endorsing the beverage.
Opposition parties are, of course, skeptical. Pawlu, the leader of the Hello Kitty Party, suggested that they should instead focus on building a solid road to Gozo. “Trust me, kombucha won’t help you when you’re stuck in a traffic jam on the Gozo ferry!” he exclaimed.
At press time, locals were left wondering how many pastizzi could be bought with this kind of cash. Looks like the Azure Window Beverage Fest is set to become Malta’s new ‘festa’ — complete with fireworks, of course!
