VALLETTA — In a revolutionary step for Malta’s cultural landscape, the government has announced that all bus drivers must double as tour guides starting this week. Tourists will not only learn about Valletta’s history but will also enjoy complimentary pastizzi at every stop.
”It’s about time we spice up the daily commute!” said Minister of Culture, Karmenu. “Now, every bus ride will be a journey through time and taste!” Critics say the initiative is impractical, but local tourists are already buzzing with excitement.
“I can’t wait to learn about the Knights while munching on some plain pastizzi! It’s the best of both worlds!”
Each route will feature a personalized history lesson that will cover significant events in Maltese history, all while ensuring that passengers get to taste at least three different types of pastizzi. From the iconic ricotta to the savory peas, no stone will be left unturned.
Pastizzi on the Go
The Planning Authority is already thrilled with the environmental impact. “Less people are going to restaurants, and that means more room for traffic!” said Tumas, a spokesperson for the Authority.
While some may argue that bus drivers aren’t equipped for historical narratives, locals are optimistic. “If they can navigate the roundabouts, they can surely navigate our rich history,” said Pawlu, a veteran driver.
The new initiative is making waves in transport circles, with drivers now attending workshops titled, ‘Bus Driving and Storytelling: An Unstoppable Combination.’ Tours will start from Central Station and extend to every corner of Malta, with special themed rides like ‘The Invasion of the Ottomans—With Extra Pastizzi!’ planned for the summer.

At press time, the tourism industry reported a 200% increase in local bus ridership, alongside a frantic search for more pastizzi vendors to keep up with demand.
