VALLETTA — In a bold move, Valletta’s mayor has proposed to transform all public transport buses into mobile pastizzerias. The idea? To tackle the public transport crisis while simultaneously satisfying the nation’s insatiable craving for pastizzi.
Speaking at a press conference held at a local pastizzeria, the mayor enthusiastically declared, “Why not have fresh, hot pastizzi while you’re stuck in traffic? It’s a win-win!” The proposal includes a variety of fillings, from classic ricotta to more innovative options like chilli con carne and Nutella.
This plan has left many residents scratching their heads and some drooling. Local baker Marija, a proud pastizzi maker, said, “Uwejj, I can’t decide if this is genius or madness. But if I can get a pastizzi at the bus stop, I’m on board!”
Critics, however, are not so impressed. Karmenu, a Valletta commuter, said, “Mela, great idea but how will I get on the bus with a plate of pastizzi? I can barely fit with my bag!” Others worry it will only exacerbate the already chaotic situation on the roads. “Traffic is bad enough. Now we’ll have people fighting for a seat and a pastizzi?”
Local Reaction Mixed
Despite the skepticism, the mayor assures the public that the plan will alleviate both hunger and frustration. “Imagine the aroma wafting through Valletta as people enjoy their ride with a side of ħobż biż-żejt,” he added. The initial prototype will test five routes and is set to launch next month, assuming they can find enough chefs to work inside the moving kitchens.
“I just hope they don’t run out of pastizzi during rush hour!”
At press time, the mayor is urgently searching for ways to keep pastizzi from ending up on the floor during sharp turns.
