VALLETTA — In a groundbreaking announcement, the Maltese government has officially adopted ‘Pastizzi Pilates’ as a national sport. Citizens are now required to perform dough-rolling exercises while juggling hot pastizzi to enhance both fitness and snacking skills.

During a press conference, Minister for Culture Marija Sultana explained that the decision aims to improve the physical fitness of the Maltese while simultaneously promoting the nation’s beloved snack. ‘We want our citizens to be fit and well-fed,’ she declared, juggling a pastizzi herself. ‘Why not combine the two?‘

The plan includes mandatory weekly classes held in the ġnien (garden) and the use of pastizzi as weights. Residents renowned for their juggling skills, like local pastry chef Karmenu, are set to lead these classes. ‘I am ready to show everyone how to toss a pastizzi without losing it in the traffic,’ he said, referring to the common dangers of Malta’s roads.

Response from Citizens

Not everyone is convinced. Local man Tumas commented, ‘I can barely catch a pastizz in my mouth let alone while doing sit-ups. This is madness! But if it means more pastizzi, I’m in.'

'This is a new highlight for Malta. Next, they’ll have us competing for the fastest pastizzi-eating marathon.’

The government hopes that ‘Pastizzi Pilates’ will not only cultivate a healthier population but will also give the tourism industry a new gimmick. ‘Imagine foreign tourists trying to juggle while they eat! It’ll be a hit!’ Marija added, clearly excited.

As the program rolls out next month, officials are preparing for the first-ever ‘Pastizzi Pilates Championship’ where contestants will be judged on both technique and how many pastries they can eat without dropping any. Manufacturers of pastizzi are already reporting a surge in dough production.

At press time, the government confirmed they are seeking sponsorship from local pastizzi shops for official team uniforms made out of pastry wrappers.
