VALLETTA — In an unprecedented move to attract tourists, the Maltese government has declared every Sunday as ‘Festa tal-Kobba’. This unique celebration will honor the art of balancing pastizzi on one’s head while traversing Valletta’s notoriously cobblestone streets.

The idea was born after officials noticed that tourists often ignored local attractions in favor of overpriced gelato and confusing road signs. Prime Minister Robert Abela said, “We realized that nothing says Malta quite like the risk of losing a pastizz while avoiding a pothole!” It’s an initiative sure to thrill both locals and visitors—or at least make for great Instagram photos.

Every Sunday, participants will line up to receive their free pastizzi before attempting to navigate a designated route through Valletta. Local ferħan Karmenu, who already balances pastizzi on his head to impress tourists, said, “Mela, now I can finally be recognized for my life skills! This will make my market career a whole lot easier.”

More than Just a Snack

Aside from the art of balancing culinary delights, special prizes are available for those who complete the course without losing their snacks. Organizers promise local crafts, street performers, and plenty of parking wardens to ensure a proper festival atmosphere!

“I can’t wait to see tourists trying to navigate those cobblestones while balancing pastizzi—what could possibly go wrong?”

However, some sectors of society are raising concerns. Traffic expert Leonora cautioned, “While I appreciate the creativity, we must remember that Valletta is already a nightmare for pedestrians. Throwing pastizzi into the mix might send us over the edge!“

Critics also argue that ‘Festa tal-Kobba’ might overshadow other significant events, such as the traditional Maltese festival ‘Festa tal-Fireworks’ that attracts millions. But government officials seem unfazed, stating, “If we can teach tourists how to balance just one pastizz, we consider it a win!”

At press time, preparations for the inaugural Festa tal-Kobba were well underway, as locals eagerly anticipated another excuse to eat pastizzi. Uwejjja, who doesn’t love an excuse to eat more snacks while walking awkwardly?
