VALLETTA — In a surprising development that has left many residents raising their eyebrows, the Maltese government has declared an official holiday known as ‘Befriend a Cactus Day.’ This event aims to tackle the pressing issues of social isolation and the alarming lack of greenery in urban areas. Prime Minister Xandru Borg announced this initiative during a press conference where he even brought his own prickly friend, Fred the Cactus, to demonstrate proper conversational techniques.
More Than Just Spikes
According to officials, the idea came after months of research, which revealed that it’s easier to get a cactus to listen than your average Maltese neighbor. “Cacti are the perfect friends,” said the Prime Minister while gesturing enthusiastically with his hand around Fred. “They don’t interrupt. They don’t complain about the heat. And most importantly, they don’t park illegally.”
Residents across Malta are encouraged to spend quality time with their cacti, engaging in heartfelt conversations about plants, local politics, or even pastizzi recipes.
