VALLETTA — In an unprecedented move to tackle road rage and enhance snacking options, the Maltese government has announced plans to convert all traffic lights into traditional pastizzi vendors. The initiative promises that every red light will not only halt traffic but will also tantalize taste buds across the islands.
”We realized that many drivers get frustrated at red lights, so why not give them something to look forward to?” said local Transport Minister Pawlu Stivala. “Imagine stopping at the lights, only to be greeted by a man selling piping hot pastizzi with ricotta filling. It’s genius, I tell you!”
Beginning next month, construction crews will replace traffic signals with pastizzi vendors. Each vendor will be decked out in bright colors resembling the traditional Malta flag and will offer a variety of options: plain ricotta, mushy peas, and even a spicy twist with chili.
Snack It Up at Every Stop
The government believes that not only will this initiative reduce road rage, but it will also provide extra income for vendors struggling in today’s economy. Residents like Marija from Msida are already excited. “Finally! I can stop at red lights without feeling the stress of waiting. Instead, I can grab a pastizz and enjoy my life!"
"This will change the way we drive, and the way we eat!”
However, not everyone is on board. Critics claim that this could lead to increased traffic jams, as drivers may be too busy munching on pastries to pay attention to their surroundings. One concerned citizen, Karmenu from Birkirkara, exclaimed, “What if I’m stuck at a light and only want a ħobż biż-żejt? Will I be forced to buy a pastizz? That’s tyranny!“
At press time, the Planning Authority is still figuring out how to incorporate fireworks into the initiative for those who stop for both snacks and safety.
