VALLETTA — In a shocking new policy, the Maltese government has announced that every complaint about construction noise will be compensated with free pastizzi. Officials believe this culinary solution can ease tensions between furious residents and the relentless clatter of hammers and drills.

”We figured, why not throw some pastizzi at the problem? It’s doughy, delicious, and has historically calmed even the most furious contractors,” stated Minister for Noise Control and Snacks, Pawlu Zammit. “A pastizz in hand is worth two in the construction site!”

Residents are already lining up for their free treats, claiming they enjoy the noise just a bit more now. “If I hear construction at 7 am, I’m just excited for my free pastizzi. It’s like breakfast and therapy all in one!” said Marija from Sliema.

Boosting the Local Economy

The government believes this initiative will not only appease angry residents but also boost the local economy. “With every complaint, that’s a potential pastizzi sale from one of our beloved bakers! This is Malta helping Malta!” added Zammit.

However, experts are skeptical. “This is just a distraction from the actual problem—extreme noise levels!” said Karmenu, a local economist who prefers biż-żejt over pastizzi. “What happens when they run out of pastizzi? Do we get Vannetti? Grocer’s choice? A pat on the back?"

"We’ve tried soothing methods before. Nothing works like a good pastizz. Trust me, I know my clients.”

— Tumas, Mediator for Angry Residents

Despite the naysayers, the initiative is set to start next week. Residents are already making plans to submit their complaints for the snack-filled windfall. But the Planning Authority is also looking into regulating the pastizzi to avoid potential hoarding.

At press time, Zammit was seen enjoying a pastizz while listening to a live construction concert.
